LOCATION

A SERENE PLACE

Spilia village Hotel is located in the center of the beautiful traditional village of “Spilia”, which means “Cave” in Greek. The name comes from a cave with great historical importance, the cave of Saint John the Hermit, who stands on top of the village hill.

The village of Spilia is a serene, beautiful place which is immersed in nature – the unique, especial nature that we find in the countryside of Chania and Crete.

The village is strategically located in the center of a green valley, surrounded by olive groves and citrus orchards.

All the rooms of the hotel have been honorably named after either local place-names or well known people from the village. This is the reason you will find your room called something like “Kseropigado”, “Marathokefala”, or “Anastasakis suite”.

Places to Visit

The area is ideal for you, if you want to relax amidst a tranquil, beautiful natural landscape, or if you enjoy walking, mountain-biking and swimming at the numerous beautiful beaches in the area, which are among the finest in Crete.

To talk more specifically about beaches, among the numerous great beaches in the area, there are two beaches which are voted time after time among the best in the world.

The first one is the amazing beach of Balos, located on the northwestern tip of Crete on Gramvoussa Cape, which is a real tropical beach in the south of Europe.

The second is Elafonissi beach, located on the southwestern tip of Crete, with its characteristic white and pink sand, sitting on top of a beautiful shallow lagoon and the tiny island of the same name, which is easily accessible on foot.

But the region has a lot more to offer than beaches. In the area of the village there are numerous centuries-old churches with unique architectural styles, and the well-known Cave of Saint John the Hermit in the hillock of Marathokefala (located just 600 meters from the hotel). Close by is the picturesque, imposing Gorge of Deliana. And not far away is the famous Chania city, possibly the most beautiful small city in Greece, with its picturesque Old Town and Venetian Harbor and an array of centuries-old sights, shops, restaurants and bars that can make your holidays in Crete unforgettable.
